training Apr 27-May 1

Best of the West! the tournament last Sunday didn't have quite a huge number of competitors but the quality was high! there was no easy matches! I won my division and won one and lost one in the open division. Adam took first place in his first tournament!!! He was bad ass! He submitted all of his opponents and is off to a great start in his tournament career! He plans on getting into MMA someday. Andy took second place in his advanced division and is one hell of a competitor!

Training this week has been great. Charlie taught classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He has great Jiu Jitsu and shows every little detail to his techniques. Training on Thursday was so much fun! worked on strengthing our chokes and got a lot of rolling in!

Adams guard... What can I say, Adam is Blowing Up!!! His guard game is sick! you all better watch your arm, or he'll take it home with him as his trophy!

Maxs' guard...
Max has been on a steady roll of improvement. can't wait for his next tournament...

Charlies' Guard...
Charlie got in a full week of training this week and is prepping for tournament competition. This man has a great Jiu Jitsu game and is so fun to watch!

Hey, some of you guys have been soooo lazy! You're calling me up on the phone and telling me that you don't feel motivated! COME ON NOW. That it's hard to get up off the couch and you want me to give you some encouraging words? WELL, GET ON THE MAT AND LET'S TRAIN! I'm not you're babysitter...

training Apr 19-24

Competing in Jiu-Jitsu is not for everybody but if you train regularly and take your Jiu Jitsu seriously, I would recommend doing some tournaments from time to time or on a regular basis. It will enhance what you know and you will learn so much, not only about Jiu Jitsu, but about yourself. It's one thing to be "King" of the practice room and completely another to go toe to toe with someone that has a different idea of Jiu Jitsu than you in a competitive setting with a stop watch. But I do say, to get good at tournament Jiu Jitsu, you need to do a lot of tournaments to get really good at it. The stategy is different, the energy, the setting, etc, etc... Next Sunday, April 26th, there will be a small group of us competing in the Best of the West, No-Gi tournament in Long Beach. It'll be another opportunity to test our Jiu-Jitsu in a competitive enviorment. Wish us luck! It was such a beautiful day today!!! I told the guys that they are crazy for being so dedicated to show up for training when they could be at the beach kicking it or staying at home, nice and cozy on the couch with their favorite bag of potato chips watching re-runs on the tube. We had a small group but wow, that was some tough training. These guys went hard and trained smart and will reap the rewards of IMPROVEMENT! I cannot tell you enough, how important it is to keep up your health and fitness. If you're doing a sport like Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu It would definitely benefit you to crosstrain in some form of strength training (doesn't have to be lifting), some cardiovascular training, along with some flexibilty training to enhance your athleticism. The benefits are gold, not only to your Jiu Jitsu game, but done correctly, to your overall health as well.

Apr 17, Training @ Haueters'

Ryan and I took the drive this morning to get to Redondo Beach to train with Chris and some of his guys. It was a great time as usual, and Ryan and I got to spend some quality time sharing some insight. Chris had us all go No-Gi today. We did A LOT of rolling and at the end he had us each do some rounds of "Iron Man"
HeMan, Chris, Me, and Sam, after some hard training. I left today, feeling like an old man...body is beat up. these are some tough guys!

These guys are great! Looking forward to more training to come!

training Apr 13-17

Hope you guys had a great Easter! I know I ate a lot. and now, it's back to training...
Attacking from the mount this week. Working chokes, set ups and combinations, arm bar attacks, and control and dominating. The mount is a tough position to attack from for most people so we're going to spend some time with it the next couple of weeks. Daniel working some stuff from the mount while Max keeps an eye out!

A lot of people are getting sick right now so please take care of yourselves guys!
