Grapplers Quest this weekend! so, no class on Sunday. Good luck to Andrew and David for this upcoming weekend! Dan and Greg training hard on Wednesday night! Ray and Max kicking it after some hard training!
It is time... to roll hard! My game plan is simple enough -- I'll look to win by points by always playing the top game and attacking for take downs. If I'm in danger of being swept, I'll back out and "reset" the fight. I'll look for submissions when they fall into my lap from good positioning and my opponent making mistakes. At this point, I wish I could work on Guillotine chokes a lot more too. Those will come with time and hard work I guess. There are a few other pieces of my strategy that are more minor, but one last thing is that I don't care if I win by 1 point or 20 or a submission. I won't try to stall, but I won't open up when I'm winning, either.
The only problem with all these tournaments is that they encourage me to develop my top game over my bottom game in practice. On second thought, that may not be such a bad thing right now, because I want to get good at *something.* By working hard on what feels most natural to me, I think I'll pick up a lot faster. Definitely need to work on my bottom game though! Ray's is fantastic, so I'll hope to be like that sooner or later!
Well I did well at Grappler's Quest. I took 2nd. My plan seems to fit my style, and it feels like it doesn't matter if someone knows it or not. I can execute it well.
One important thing that I really enjoyed was the single leg takedowns I managed to hit. I think I only actually managed to take 1 person down with my double leg, and the rest were either knee taps or run the pipe takedowns.
Fun fun :D btw I have Staff, and I got antibiotics. Doc says it's not contagious, but I'll be cautious and make sure I got a few days worth of meds in me before I come roll.
